Future POS Customers Get a Dose of Reality on “Bar Rescue”

Bar Rescue Brownsviulle Point of Sale

As many tavern and taproom aficionados can confirm, running a bar is no small feat, and Spike TV’s hit reality series, Bar Rescue, sheds some light on the blood, sweat and tears that go into the day-to-day operations. The show’s premise? To provide audiences with a front row seat as nightlife industry expert Jon Taffer transforms struggling bars by schooling owners and managers in “the science of the perfect pour, to the height of the bar stools.”

Back in August 2012, Taffer transformed one of our Future POS of Ohio bar customers, the Black Sheep, by developing a unique concept and adding a signature cocktail menu. In “Broke Black Sheep,” viewers watched as Taffer’s no-nonsense tactics whipped the family-run bar back into shape.

This time around, audiences will get to witness as another Future POS customer is returned to the profit-producing fervor of its glory days. Zanzibar, a billiards bar and lounge installed by RDS Denver, underwent its own technology transformation when it switched from basic cash registers to a full point-of-sale system using Future POS software, Pioneer POS hardware and Touch Dynamic handhelds. Located two blocks from Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies, Zanzibar is Denver’s only bar and grill that offers free pool every day. Not exactly a lost cause, but as you’ll see in the upcoming episode, still in need of a little saving grace -and possibly even a new name?

So, what does a “rescue” entail? In Taffer’s world, 5 basic steps:

Step 1: Surveillance –Using hidden cameras, Taffer and his team observe the bar’s operations uncensored to identify weaknesses and areas for improvement

Step 2: Training- Bar staff is trained on ways to enhance their work performance, efficiency and customer service

Step 3: “Stress Test” -Local patrons are brought in to “test” the staff on their new skills

Step 4: Reconstruction -The bar undergoes all of the necessary renovations

Step 5: Relaunch-The “new” bar is unveiled to the public with a revitalized strategy for moving forward

The Zanzibar episode, entitled “Empty Pockets,” airs this Sunday, March 10th at 10/9 C. Tune in and see if you can spot Future POS!
